Axis C: Mediation between local practices and public policies

Empirical evidences as to what works, when, where and why are needed to design relevant policies and institutional mechanisms supportive to the replication and/or generalization of success stories. Integration of biophysical and socio-economic data originated from different sources, available at different scales and level of accuracy, will support the participatory development of scenarios towards improved livelihood systems and better governance of natural resources. The main objectives of this axis are:

• to provide a location-specific, spatially explicit, and multi-scale knowledge base relevant to the stakeholders problems and expectations, especially by combining indigenous and scientific knowledge,
• to set up a platform for resource use negotiation involving key stakeholders of rural development and to facilitate the emergence of institutional and policy framework favorable to the diffusion of promising innovations.
